Veste Oberhaus with Oberhausmuseum Passau

The newly designed observation tower tells the multi-faceted history of the German-Austrian border area around the Inn, Danube and Salzach. In the region between Passau and Kufstein, rulers ruled for centuries for power and influence. A large number of castles and palaces characterizes the region, among which the Veste Oberhaus played a central role. In addition, Passau was an important hub within a network of major trade routes that extended far beyond the area around the rivers.

In the Interreg project ViSIT, researchers and art historians, among others in cooperation with the University of Passau, investigated castles, dominion and trade in the Inn-Salzach-Danube region. The research results are now presented in the historic observation tower of the Veste Oberhaus. Their reconstructed architectural history and virtual 3D projections accompany the ascent to the tower with spectacular views of Passau and its historic surroundings.
