The project "ViSIT - Virtual Network Systems and Information Technologies for the Tourist Development of Cultural Heritage" was funded by the INTERREG V-A Programme Austria - Bavaria 2014-2020 of the European Regional Development Fund (EFRE) with a total volume of 2.5 million Euros and ran from October 2016 to September 2019.
The topic of ViSIT is the digital valorisation of castles, palaces and residences in the Inn-Salzach-Danube region. In order to link this cultural tourism theme professionally across locations and countries, ViSIT offers a package of diverse possibilities.
Objects of cultural heritage have been digitized and enriched with specific information; the results are stored in a network database consisting of a graph database with (art)historical content and a media database. A software framework for museum applications, with which mobile apps and stationary mediation options can be created, complements the digital infrastructure. You can find out more about the project, its partners and the range of applications of ViSIT under the heading "About the Project".
The digital resources of ViSIT, which aim at curators and cultural tourism professionals, are open source. All technical components as well as instructions, specific best practices and the concept for e-cultural tourism developed in the project are accessible under the heading "Network Systems". In the ViSIT graph database you can also discover connections between places, buildings, things, people and events from the era of rich dukes, armed bishops and powerful emperors.
In the "ViSIT Showcase" we invite you to an exiting journey through time in the cross-border cultural area between Inn, Salzach and Danube - and to discover 3D digital representations from the ViSIT collection interactively.
