Sustainability through conversions

Castles often went through an eventful building history, which could extend over many centuries, even half a millennium and more. The fact that the building complexes have lasted so long is often due to the fact that they have been repeatedly reused and in some cases fundamentally rebuilt. As external conditions changed, castles were also changed - the buildings thus adapted to the functional requirements placed on them.
Here we show you some selected examples from the Inn-Salzach-Donaur region how castles change in two directions: in the direction of the fortress or in the direction of the castle. It also says something about the change of framework conditions - an adaptation to military innovations takes place under different premises than an emphasis on representative power representation.
