Stationary laser scanner

Stationary laser scanners are also used in the field of industrial quality assurance. The device used in the project is a model from Micro-Epsilon, which is used in combination with a linear table equipped with a rotary encoder for semi-automated kinetics and on which the object to be detected lies. Its surface is illuminated by laser beam, sensors detect reflected laser beams.

The result is a set of scanning points along a line - only by moving the object and repeated scanning a complete depth image is created, but only from one direction. A combination (stitching) of several depth images is necessary for the complete acquisition of the surface. The data acquisition is done by proprietary software, a rough post-processing and stitching with the open source software MeshLab.
